Gas prices up 28 cents in 10 days
NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — Gas prices continued to rise nationwide Friday, with the average price per gallon up nearly 28 cents in the past 10 days.
The national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline rose to $3.471 on Friday, according to a daily survey by motorist group AAA. That’s up 4.4 cents from $3.427 a gallon on Thursday, and 10 cents from $3.368 on Monday.
Gas spending and prices by state 
Prices at the pump can vary widely among states due to a number of factors. More California replaced Hawaii as the state with the highest gas prices in the nation. Drivers in the Golden State now pay an average $3.85 a gallon, while the average price in Hawaii is $3.84 a gallon.
Montana and Wyoming remain tied for the lowest prices in the nation. Gas prices in both states average $3.14 a gallon.
Gas prices vary widely from state to state based largely on local tax rates. But prices have been trending higher nationwide following a rise in the price of crude oil, the main ingredient in gasoline.
Oil prices were moving higher again Friday, rising to a high above $103 a barrel before backing down. The run-up in oil prices comes as the political crisis in Libya shows no sign of abating, and investors remain worried about additional supply disruptions from the Middle East.
